Teen’s Spirit Is Nirvana For Osborne (Goulburn, Friday)

It might be the cusp of winter at Goulburn on Friday but a filly that produced a summer stunner campaign attracts plenty of attention as part of a handy eight-race card.

The Neil Osborne-trained Helluva Teen is an ‘eyes on’ first-up watch after stringing together three country grade wins on the bounce to finish her most recent campaign.

The three-year-old daughter of Hellbent had a belter of a summer crusade, the hot streak not coming as a complete surprise to her trainer.

“Not at all. She ran second to a very good horse at the Gold Coast at her first start, only beaten half a head and we always knew she had ability,” Osborne offered.

You could say Helluva Teen came of age last campaign, the spirit in which she won her races impressing Osborne, three short course wins offered good insight to the what the filly is made of.

“She gave them a bit of a start and then gave them a beating albeit they probably weren’t extraordinary opposition.”

Friday sees Helluva Teen get her first raceday wrestle at her home track in the Pat Murphy Racing Class 3 Handicap over 1000m.

Osborne says the stable is happy to have her back at the track without getting too far ahead of itself, although some Northern exposure is on the cards all going well.

“Obviously Friday is our first aim and then off to Coffs Harbour, there may be something suitable for her up there around the Grafton carnival.”

Helluva Teen resumes without an official trial, her trainer keen to see more of the natural speed that was winning races for her last time in work.

“She’s only had a month in the paddock and has had two jump outs, we will let fast horses be fast!”

The stable has opted for less is best weight wise with in-form apprentice Glenn Cahill (two wins and a second from his last eight rides) taking 2kg off from gate six.

“Glenn has ridden the horse in all of her work and he won the last race on her for us.”

She proved last campaign that she’s a horse that can travel her form too, the threepeat winning streak stretching across the Orange, Cowra and Sapphire Coast circuits.

Osborne also has Loui Long Legs engaged in Race 2, the Brisbane Meadows Stud Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1200m), the trainer agreeing he’s still a work in progress for now.

“Another educational run for him. He is a very big horse and still physically immature.”

It also looks a day where the locals could pay to follow. Danny Williams has a host of acceptors with London Boy a big threat on the quick back up in Race 4 the RJ Sidney Craig Maiden H over 1000m.

Tash Burleigh has dual runners via the in-form Xspiritous (Race 3) and Corio Willow a five-year-old mare on debut (Race 1).

Danielle Seib will look to go back-to-back on her home track with Downton’s Abbey, ideally drawn over a trip that suits in Race 7, the Hibernian Hotel Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1600m.

Pat Murphy sponsors a race, has five runners on the day and could reward patient investors. Both Rileycat (blinkers going on in Race 7) and Isagura (Race 8) more capable horses than their recent runs suggest.

Goulburn’s track is currently rated a Soft 7 with dry and sunny weather forecast leading into and on raceday.
