Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 1 # 5 – AGARWOOD

She's a nice type, and she bolted in on debut at Warwick Farm 17 days ago, running fast time/sectionals relative to the day. The filly was well-backed, showed adaptability to take a trail, accelerated and went through the line full of energy. Her late visual strength was backed up by the clock running one of the meeting's fastest final 200m splits, and she extended her winning margin over the concluding stages. Expecting an aggressive ride from Adam Hyeronmius early to have first use of the track, and key indicators suggest she can improve again out to 1200m.

ROYAL RANDWICK – NEXT BEST: Race 10 # 3 – DRIFT NET

The Godolphin galloper is a consistent type, and she bounced back into winning form last start at Warwick Farm and produced one of her career peak figures. The mare had every chance but showed a turn of foot and ran fast time relative to the day. She maps to have all favours, relishes rain-affected ground and is ready to peak.

ROYAL RANDWICK – VALUE BET: Race 6 # 10 – WINNING PROPOSAL

She resumed for her new trainer, Bjorn Baker, at Gosford a fortnight ago, and her effort was full of merit after having too much to do. The filly was uncharacteristically slow to begin, had the bias against and made a long-wide sweeping run. Further, to her credit, she kept wanting to find the line and gave every indication that she could only step off that effort. The three-year-old is proven on heavy ground and has strong form lines for this event. Each-way.

ROYAL RANDWICK – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 7 # 14 – QUANTUM CAT

It's D-day for the Chris Waller-trained gelding, but he profiles well for this and is ready to peak third-up out to an ideal trip. He had no luck when resuming; excuses last start being checked/blocked at a critical stage, but Punter's Intelligence clocked him running a solid final 200m sectional in 11.86. The five-year-old gets an ideal setup on his preferred surface, produces his peak ratings on his Sydney leg, and is well-weighted.
