Jockey Quotes - Chelmsford Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $300,000 Daily Press Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

Chad Schofield (Navajo Peak): “Mr (David) Payne (trainer) gave a good push to me before the race, he just said ‘he got too far back last start and he really got going through the line’. So he said ‘whack him on the pace today and he’ll run well’, so I did that.

“He didn’t jump well but I pressed forward, I was caught wide. But once I got alongside Linderman it spurred him up. He took off to the front and we really stretched along and I was able to drop in. I saw that Knights Order dropped off around the turn so I had to get on my bike and chase the leader, but it was a good win.”

Josh Parr (Major Beel): “He was fantastic. A really strong action through the line and screaming out for the ground now. A nice platform to build off.”

Nash Rawiller (Think It Over): “A great effort. They ran it very solidly and I honestly think second up found him out the last 100m. It felt like he was there to win and just couldn’t finish it.”

Tyler Schiller (Mo'unga): “He just failed to travel today. Strong tempo, he was under pressure a long way out. Wasn’t until the 200m that he got interested and into his work.”

Rachel King (Knights Order): “Happy with how he has returned. Will take really good benefit from that and obviously be better over further.”

Brett Prebble (Bold Mac): “He ran very honest. A touch tough for him.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Hoo Ya Mal): “Brilliant. Had to go back from the gate. He was a little aggressive early but settled and finished off well. Will improve a lot off that.”

Dylan Gibbons (Lindermann): “Just got annoyed early and it sort of took its toll late. A gallant effort.”

Jay Ford (Manzoice): “It was a really good return. He was really strong late through the line. He will get better as he stretches out.”

Jason Collett (Duais): “Back too far. She has run on well but too big a start.”

James McDonald (Montefilia): “She was second up today. She sustained a good gallop to the line but just remained one-paced. Will be better suited to 2000m.”
