Lightly-raced galloper Boomsong has already proven to be a hit for his new yard with trainer Stephen O'Halloran hopeful the gelding can hit the right note again at Kembla Grange on Thursday.

Boomsong is having his first preparation for O'Halloran and heads to Illawarra Turf Club chasing back-to-back victories for his stable.

Races on the Kembla card will be named in honour of Matildas players as the Australian national women's team begins their FIFA World Cup campaign against Ireland in Sydney on Thursday night.

Boomsong lines up in the Gorry, Wheeler, Yallop-Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m) where he will attempt to replicate a determined first-up win on his new home track of Hawkesbury.

"It was a nice win at Hawkesbury which was really good to see," O'Halloran said.

"Hopefully he can go close tomorrow. He has got over the Hawkesbury run really well, we just kept him ticking over.

"He heads to Kembla where he has won before so we are looking for a good run from him again."

Boomsong's only win under previous trainer Mark Newnham came over the Kembla 1000m on May 3 last year.

The son of Your Song had his first 11 starts under Newnham for a win and four placings but was forced to move yards after the trainer made the decision to take up a position in Hong Kong.

"The owners ed me when he was out for a spell last preparation and asked if I would like to take him," O'Halloran said. "I am happy to get him in the stable.

"I had him during pre-training and then he went to Mark so I sort of knew the horse through the system.

"He came in this preparation and we obviously got the chance to train him from scratch."

In-form jockey Adam Hyeronimus will take the ride on Boomsong for his latest assignment where he will line up as one of the leading chances.

Bryce Heys' unbeaten filly Dancing Alone was the clear $1.85 TAB favourite for Thursday's affair with Boomsong on the second line of betting at $5.50.

"I think Bryce Heys' filly will be hard but it will be a typical 1000m race at Kembla, they will go quick," O'Halloran said.

"He will put himself in a good position and hopefully he is there at the business end of it."
